A&I Silent Auction Baskets

Sandy G. and a small team of Friends met in July to assemble three themed gift baskets as FoCPL's contribution to the FVRL Foundation's annual gala, Authors & Illustrators Dinner and Auction featuring Amy Tan, on October 6 at the Hilton.

Mahjong Afternoons - Amy Tan books, mahjong set, tea set and a bottle of wine; (above) Travel in Comfort - travel books, snacks, packs, bags, headphones, pillow; Doggie Fun - dog books, toys, treats, blanket, bowl (below left/right)

Proceeds from the winning bids directly benefit FoCPL. Thanks, Team!

Vancouver Peace & Justice Fair - Saturday, September 12, 9:00-3:00 - visit the Friends table - look for the banner with the logos of all the FVRL Friends groups. Spearheaded by the Friends of Vancouver Community Library, FoCPL plans to help with tabling (set-up, take-down or manning). If you're available, please contact us.*

Banned Books Week 2026 - A thought-provoking program, "Let Books Be,"  will be held in the CPCL Community Room on Tuesday, October 6  6:00-7:30 to explore the power of stories, the importance of intellectual freedom, and why access to diverse voices matters.

Library Matters...

Board Action Highlights - Board Officers hold staggered two-year terms beginning October 1st of each year. Committee chair position appointments are also reviewed and confirmed annually. The Nominating Committee (Sandy G / Julie N) is currently seeking candidates for the Vice President and Treasurer 2 positions. Please contact the Nominating Committee if you would like more information on how to get involved.*

Friends Website - At our August meeting, Jenny Wilkerson, Executive Director of the FVRL-Foundation announced plans to unveil their new website this fall. The re-design includes a template for the FVRL Friends' websites. Currently, the 14 Friends Groups have either a website, a Facebook page, both or none. The Foundation will provide the technical infrastructure and support at no cost, enabling a cohesive web presence for all groups.

Since 2024, FoCPL fully integrated its website-email-newsletter publishing programs to provide us with tools to connect with our supporters easily and efficiently. Obviously, we want to build on the momentum we've gained. We anticipate further discussions with the Foundation to help find ways to make the transition a benefit for all 14 groups, in accordance with their respective capabilities and needs.

Recent Library Support - Friends helped with Adult Trivia Night, Teen Late Night and the Summer Wrap-up celebration. Thanks to Melissa W. and Jessica W. for being on-hand to pass out treats for both the beginning and end of the Summer Reading Program.

Calling on Friends ...

* Please send an email - Click on I can help and a Board Officer will have more information about tabling at the Peace & Justice Fair or getting involved with the Board. Thank you!

Bookstore Notes ...

A huge THANK YOU to our generous donors and patrons!

The last day of each month is 1/2 Price Day at the Bookstore but on a few random days in August, you may have seen sale signs pop up. Book donations were so plentiful, Linda the Bookstore Manager, needed to move the merchandise f-a-s-t. Thank you to both donors and buyers.

NEW PAYMENT OPTION - Credit cards may now be used to pay for Bookstore purchases ($5.00 minimum). The QR Code displayed on the cash-box gives access to FoCPL's online payment page. We are curious to see whether this option proves to be a preference.
