Friends Connect #2 ~ November 2024

W-h-a-a-a-t?

If your card was suddenly rejected while checking-out and you see "your privilege has expired" or "patron not found" on the computer screen, do not be alarmed or aggravated. Your library card simply needs to be renewed.

To avoid this surprise, you may proactively check the status of your card and choose to renew online. At the Library, it takes only a few minutes of interaction with friendly library staff at the help desk to quickly renew your card for another two years.

Your card will not be replaced. That's good news for those of you who are nostalgically attached to your decade(s) old card and whose finger muscles remember your card number. HOWEVER, if you want a new card, you will also need to accept a new library card number and select from one of four new card designs!

Highlights of Board Actions

Fundraising - The Friends sponsored two tables at the recent Authors & Illustrators 2024 Dinner and Auction, the annual gala fundraising event for the FVRL Foundation. The evening's excitement peaked with the competitive bidding for the offer from the guest author, Laura Dave, to use the winning bidder's name for a character in her future novel.

The event is also a fundraising opportunity for Friends groups to submit auction items and receive the proceeds.

Thanks go to the FoCPL Officers and Friends who pitched in their ideas, time and energies to raise funds with these enticing baskets:

Friends gained more than $300 from the winning bids for Ice Cream Indulgence; Relax Rejuvenate and Renew; Disney Fandom; Creature Comfort; and Bon Appetite.

If you have ideas, items or time to give to the next A&I auction, please contact the Board.

It's never too early to do so!

Website - The names of our newly elected Board Officers and Members for October 1, 2024 to September 30, 2025 now appear on the About page.

Also available to browse is a list of past Board members since the group began in 1996. The list is a work-in-progress. We have a little gap in collective memory and records from 2012 to 2014. If you can help fill-in that gap or any other missing information, please contact the Board. Thank you!

News about Library Matters
